Looking back some 150 years ago, a place referred to today as Parker, was a vast tract of robust, thick and tall prairie grassland. Early settlers were mostly into farming, and to make use of the land, they burned fields if only to make it more viable for farming. Among the first settlers had surnames Dillehays, Gregorys, Hogges, McCrearys, and Parkers. Interestingly, a man by the name of John C. Parker – for which the city was named after, was the first documented individual to have settled here.
